Here’s how Cinephile Corner ranks every movie directed by Olivia Wilde from worst to best, including The Invite:
3. Don’t Worry Darling (2022)

On paper, Don’t Worry Darling is a film that I, and many people in the community of “less superheroes and more original stories” should like. It has a cast of stars being stars, a premise with enough twists and imagination to fill its runtime, and a budget worthy of lavish set design and creative, idiosyncratic moments. But it lacks in nearly all of this. While it’s beautiful to look at, it also comes off as preachy and all-knowing – two things that are incredibly obnoxious and dumbfounding.
2. Booksmart (2019)

1. The Invite (2026)

After the misfire that was Don’t Worry Darling, The Invite feels like a reminder of where Olivia Wilde’s talents as a director are best put to use. I think she’s much more in her lane with these smaller-scale, character-driven comedies, and this film benefits from having a more seasoned ensemble than the high school comedy of Booksmart. The cast is excellent, the dialogue is sharp, and the events of this ludicrous night are paced just well enough to keep you hooked.
