Fountain of Youth

Fountain of Youth (2025)

Fountain of Youth doesn’t reinvent the wheel. It doesn’t even inflate the tires. But it doesn’t burst them either, and in a genre flooded with big-budget, charisma-sapping clunkers, that might be faint praise—but it’s praise nonetheless. It’s a forgettable but harmless addition to Apple TV+’s library, with just enough star power and personality from John Krasinski and Natalie Portman to make it mildly palatable.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

Chris Pine leads a team of ragtag thieves on a journey throughout an expansive world. Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a movie that contains a mighty cast and includes many moving parts – all of which excel in harmony.

Mayday

Mayday movie poster

In one of the more stunning turn of events in 2026, I had a great time with Mayday. A Ryan Reynolds-led straight-to-streaming action movie on Apple TV+ is basically the opposite of a sales pitch for me, with every element of that sentence somehow getting worse the more I think about it. The only thing less noteworthy than Reynolds’ output this side of Mississippi Grind (absent Deadpool) has been the track record of straight-to-streaming action movies, and Apple TV+’s action slate in particular.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)

Harrison Ford does his best in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, but there is so much beyond him to be desired that it ultimately feels worthless saying farewell to Indiana Jones in this manner. James Mangold crafts a few neat action sequences, but very little goes noticed past that.

The Grand Budapest Hotel

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

The Grand Budapest Hotel stands as one of the most ambitious and widely celebrated films in Wes Anderson’s career—a visual symphony of symmetry, color, and control. It marked a turning point for Anderson, both critically and stylistically, encapsulating nearly two decades of his evolving artistry into one meticulously crafted package. While it’s easy to see why The Grand Budapest Hotel has been called the quintessential Wes Anderson movie, there’s something about its ornate façade and heavily curated design that, for some viewers, keeps it just out of emotional reach.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011)

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol is not just one of the best entries in the franchise—it’s one of the best action films of the 2010s. It reenergized the series with a bold new direction by Brad Bird, brought in a fresh ensemble, and delivered set pieces that rival anything else in modern blockbuster cinema. Tom Cruise returns once again as Ethan Hunt.

Uncharted

Uncharted (2022)

Uncharted continues the long string of average video game movie adaptations. Tom Holland does his best to save the film, but every attempt is undercut by Mark Wahlberg’s comatose screen presence.

The Adam Project

The Adam Project (2022)

It has a heaping amount of heart and a dash of whit, but The Adam Project failed to deliver the breathtaking science fiction blockbuster that Netflix was hoping it would. The action vehicle for Ryan Reynolds lands with a soft thud.

Ghosted

Ghosted (2023)

On paper, the talent for Ghosted should be enough to carry a weak script. But the technical and creative elements are too far gone to salvage any form of a watchable movie. Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, and a host of cameos fall victim to a remarkably unremarkable film.

The Fall Guy

The Fall Guy (2024)

The Fall Guy is a mixed bag of ideas and execution, but the overall experience of seeing the movie is worth considering because of the sheer star power at play – notably Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. The film is humming best as it moves along, thanks to lengthened action sequences where director David Leitch squeezes every ounce of juice from the movie.
