The official trailer for One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated 2025 film, has finally arrived. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn, the film boasts a supporting cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Alana Haim, Wood Harris, and Chase Infiniti (Presumed Innocent).

One Battle After Another is loosely based on Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, marking Anderson’s second adaptation of Pynchon’s work following 2014’s Inherent Vice. However, the trailer suggests a more modern setting, diverging from the book’s original timeline. The film’s official premise reads: When their evil enemy resurfaces after 16 years, a group of ex-revolutionaries reunites to rescue one of their own’s daughter.
This is Anderson’s largest production to date, with a reported budget of $140 million. The trailer showcases sweeping locations, intricately designed set pieces, and a palpable sense of scale that suggests One Battle After Another will be unlike anything the director has tackled before.
The film marks Paul Thomas Anderson’s first collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio and serves as his long-awaited follow-up to Licorice Pizza (2021), which was met with critical acclaim and some controversy over its subject matter. Anderson’s previous works, including Boogie Nights, Magnolia, There Will Be Blood, The Master, and Phantom Thread, have cemented him as one of modern cinema’s most visionary directors. With One Battle After Another, he looks poised to deliver another ambitious and singularly crafted film.
Currently, One Battle After Another is set to release in theaters September 26, 2025. Reports suggest PTA and Warner Bros are “fighting” over final cut of the film.
