Martin Scorsese’s next film may finally be taking shape, and as expected, Leonardo DiCaprio is set to lead the project. According to Publisher’s Weekly, Apple Original Films has secured the rights to Marilynne Robinson’s acclaimed Gilead novels, with Scorsese focusing on adapting the second book in the series, Home. The film will be co-written by Scorsese, Todd Field, and Kent Jones, with Field reportedly helming Gilead, the first installment. There is still some ambiguity regarding whether the remaining books in the series will be adapted.

If the project moves forward as planned, DiCaprio is expected to play Jack Boughton, a wayward alcoholic who returns to his hometown of Gilead to care for his dying father alongside his sister, Glory. Given the interconnected nature of Robinson’s novels, this could signal a significant long-term commitment for DiCaprio and other key cast members.
This marks yet another major collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio, a duo that has defined modern cinema with films like Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and most recently, Killers of the Flower Moon.
However, given Scorsese’s history of being linked to multiple projects at once, this news should be taken with caution. Other potential films he has reportedly considered include an unconventional take on the life of Jesus Christ (with rumored interest from Andrew Garfield and Miles Teller) and an adaptation of David Grann’s The Wager (Grann also wrote Killers of the Flower Moon).
If confirmed, Home would be Scorsese’s second film for Apple TV+ following Killers of the Flower Moon, and his third collaboration with a streaming service after The Irishman (2019) for Netflix. Whatever his final choice, it’s clear that Scorsese is drawn to ambitious, literary adaptations—a prospect that only adds to the excitement surrounding his next project.
