Christopher Nolan’s next epic is officially underway, and with it comes our first look at The Odyssey—as well as confirmation that Matt Damon will star as Odysseus. The highly anticipated film has just begun production and is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2026, via Universal Studios.

Following the massive success of Oppenheimer, which won Best Picture and became one of Nolan’s biggest hits, The Odyssey looks to be just as ambitious. Like his previous work, Nolan has assembled an all-star ensemble, featuring Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Corey Hawkins, Bill Irwin, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Nick Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, and Maurice Compte.
The first teaser image suggests that Nolan is staying faithful to Homer’s classic text rather than opting for a modern reimagining. The legendary tale follows Odysseus on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, a story that has endured for over 2,000 years. Given Nolan’s signature approach to large-scale storytelling, The Odyssey seems primed to be a visually stunning, IMAX-shot spectacle—one that continues his trend of tackling massive, historically resonant narratives.
