What Is ‘F1’ About?
F1 follows a retired Formula 1 driver who returns to the track to help a young teammate on a struggling racing team. The story focuses on speed, pressure, and the bond that forms between two racers from different generations. Set against real Grand Prix events, the film blends on-track action with behind-the-scenes moments, showing how racing is as much about people as it is about machines. It explores how second chances can lead to unexpected outcomes.
The film stars Brad Pitt as the veteran driver and Damson Idris as the rising talent. It is directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Apple Original Films. The movie includes real footage from major F1 races and features appearances from real drivers and teams. With a strong focus on the emotional and physical demands of racing, F1 delivers intensity and drama both on and off the track.

Meet the Cast of ‘F1’
F1 features a strong cast led by Brad Pitt, who plays Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver pulled back into the sport. His character brings experience, grit, and a past shaped by a major crash. Hayes returns not just to race but to mentor a young teammate, adding depth to the film’s central story. That teammate is Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris. Pearce is a rising star with raw speed and a lot to prove. The dynamic between Hayes and Pearce drives much of the film’s emotion and energy.
Kerry Condon plays Kate McKenna, the technical director of the APXGP team. She handles the engineering side and keeps the team focused under pressure. Javier Bardem plays Ruben Cervantes, the team owner and Hayes’s former racing partner. Their shared history adds weight to the choices they make as they try to keep the team alive. Tobias Menzies joins as Peter Banning, a team board member whose role affects how decisions play out behind the scenes.
